Celebrating Material Diversity in TekuniDua by DDAP Architect, What Asian Architecture Means Today
The diversity of materials, spaces, and scales, like the existing Asian architecture, was the inspiration for DDAP Architect in designing TekuniDua. An apartment project with four garden rooms, four standard rooms, four suite rooms, and one penthouse, which has a simple mission regarding the utilization of reclaimed materials from the client's warehouse.
TekuniDua apartment project designed by DDAP Architect.
TekuniDua appears with a strong character from the reclaimed and recycled materials it uses.
Standing on an area of 800 square meters, this project is expected by the client to be a set of aesthetic principles similar to the previous Tekuni Room - an oasis in the busy city of Kuta, Bali. Materials such as reclaimed wood, natural materials, quality used furniture, recycled tiles, granite, marble, and unique old accessories are then rearranged by DDAP to form the character and potential soul of TekuniDua.
Reclaimed wood material dominates the facade of this building.
Through the play of light, shadow, wind, and scent, this project was also designed by the architects to be able to respond to the senses of its inhabitants. Thus, TekuniDua will also offer new horizons to the surrounding landscape in its large, tall, prominent, and hidden image.
The apartment courtyard is complete with a swimming pool that is kept private.
So, how can the diversity of materials be embedded in this project harmoniously and represent the identity of the client who owns the wood business? According to DDAP, each material has its soul and can be felt by the user. DDAP also understands that the decision to use reclaimed and recycled materials has the other advantage of reducing project budgets and promoting sustainability principles. Thus, the application of these materials is maximized by the architect as much as possible, both for large and small-scale jobs.
The stairwell area of the apartment has a screen made of recycled table legs as the facade.
Starting from 10 sets of traditional reclaimed wood frames from China that are used to emphasize the entrance, facade, and interior design, especially in the upper room and penthouse. Then, there are 60 boxes of used Chinese medicine sublimation bottles arranged in a sunny area to produce a unique lighting effect on the floor, as well as a privacy barrier for the swimming pool.
Meanwhile, to increase the value of the staircase area on the north side, the facade screen is formed from recycled table legs which produce an intricate but still attractive pattern. Meanwhile, in almost every element such as columns, walls, roofs, and interiors, reclaimed teak wood is the architect's choice. As a touch of detail, the Javanese sugar mold was modified to be a room number.

In the end, TekuniDua manages to hint at diversity like most architecture in Asia, which remains in line with today's modern impression. By emphasizing the potential diversity of materials from clients, DDAP has succeeded in designing TekuniDua into a beautiful architectural masterpiece.
